Toys in Twenty Five
After over 20 years in the adult toy industry, I still get asked the same questions I was asking 40 years ago.
It’s not surprising because we still don’t talk openly about them and certainly don’t admit to owning them.
Except me of course. I have a cupboard full.
I ran a competition on how many toys were in a Perspex box. They were the samples I had lying around and collected over the years. There were 267 of them!
Cleaning out my garage!
I’ve been cleaning out my garage and found even more. While designs and materials have changed and improved over the years their basic shapes and uses have remained constant. The biggest advance in adult toys was the launch of We Vibe, a Canadian brand who revolutionised the Couple Toy. The shape has now been copied by almost every manufacturer.
You may want to start your toy journey or maybe you’re curious about what is out there. I’m going to explain the basics and then do pop over to the lolamontez.co.za website to explore what I’m talking about.
Let’s start with dildos.
They have been around for the longest time. It is believed that the oldest found so far is about 30 000BC. Read that again!
Dildos do not vibrate. They are penis shaped and used manually for penetration. Many have suction cups at the bottom for ease of use. The shower is a popular destination. They are usually realistic but recently a whole range of alien looking varieties have become popular.
Vibrators:
The hint is in the name – they vibrate, and they come in a variety of shapes and sizes. From the ever-popular bullet (small, discreet and powerful) to large and wand shaped. Each vibrator has a special job. There are clitoral stimulators (normally pebble or bullet shaped), G-Spot massagers (they have a hook shape on the end), Rabbit style (for penetration and clitoral stimulation at the same time), wands (for external stimulation and sore muscles) and couple vibrators (usually U shaped).
I believe all vibrators are couple vibrators and should be included in play to increase intimacy. They are not a threat; they are simply the most effective wing man. They have still not designed one that can make tea after!
Vibrators take batteries or are rechargeable. Many now come with a remote control or are app enabled, making long distance play a reality.
Love Eggs, Kegel, vagina or Benwa Balls.
Same product different name. Made extremely popular by Fifty Shades of Grey. They offer unique pleasure and benefits, all at the same time.
These balls are used to strengthen the pelvic floor for improved bladder control and stronger orgasms. They can be used solo or as foreplay. Love eggs are vibrating and usually remote or app controlled, bringing a whole new dimension to dinner parties. Most are simply weighted balls. And yes, you insert both!
Anal Toys
There are two types of anal toys; Plugs and beads. These are inserted into the anus. Please do not insert anything into the anus that doesn’t have a base or a handle. The anus sucks during orgasm, and you don’t want a trip to the emergency room. They will not believe that you slipped in the shower.
Anal plugs can vibrate, inflate or be static. They cause a feeling of fulness which at the point of orgasm can intensify the orgasm as the muscles contract against it. Both men and women can use.
Anal beads look like beads, start small and gradually get bigger on the string. Pull out slowly, at the point of orgasm. It extends the pleasure. They are a great starter toy if you begin to explore anal play.
Remember the lubricant!
Strap Ons: A versatile toy for all couples. They can vibrate, be hollow or double penetrating. There are a variety of ways to use them and they are not just for women on women play. Available in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes.
Penis or Cock Rings;
Also known as stamina rings. Wear at the base of the penis to maintain firmer, longer-lasting erections. Double ring C Rings fit around the shaft and the testicles for additional sensations. Vibrating versions are extremely pleasurable, especially for your partner.
To use, use lubricant and apply when flaccid for a comfortable snug fit when the action happens.
Male sleeves, strokers, masturbators and pumps;
All used on the penis, either solo or with your partner. Vibrating and App enabled for distance play. More pleasurable to use with – you’ve guessed it – a dash of lubricant.
Probably the most important and versatile of all the toys in our arsenal Lubricant rate as number one. Underrated and, in my opinion, an essential item. There are just so many ways to use it.
